Oregon – Portland, Canby, Tillamook & More
Our quick weekend trip to Oregon for Memorial Day was just what we were looking for. We explored the Oregon Coast (Cannon Beach, Lincoln City & Depoe Bay) saw many seals and crashing surf against the rocks. We stopped in Tillamook to meet Kimberly’s friends Lisa and Adam and visit the Tillamook Cheese Factory to have a taste of delicious cheese and ice cream.
It rained most of the day so we didn’t walk the beaches as much but we enjoyed driving around and seeing the coast just the same. And as was tradition when Kimberly lived in Oregon, we stopped at Mo’s, a great seafood restaurant before heading back. From our table we could watch the seals and otters playing in the water. How fun!
The next couple of days, we spent a great deal of time hiking the hills witnessing the power of Oregon waterfalls from the falls at Silver Falls State Park to the famous Multnomah Falls.
We also spent a little time driving through the Willamette Valley visiting a few of the many wineries that capture great tasting wine and cheerful people. We found that many of the wineries in Oregon make Pinot Noir’s, which Jay thoroughly enjoyed and Kimberly discovered that she wasn’t that fond of that type of wine. We did find a couple great dessert wines – one was a Blackberry wine that was from Nantucket.
A little of our time was spent driving around Canby and Wilsonville where Kimberly used to live. Poor Jay had to continue to listen to Kimberly remark about the beautiful rhododendrons that cover this area (you just can’t find those in dry Colorado!).
All in all – it was a very enjoyable time! Kimberly got to enjoy visiting again, and Jay got to ‘add’ a state to his list of places he’s been!
