Job 17:13-16
If the only home I hope for is the grave,
if I spread out my bed in darkness,
if I say to corruption, 'You are my father,'
and to the worm, 'My mother' or 'My sister,'
where then is my hope?
Who can see any hope for me?
Will it go down to the gates of death?
Will we descend together into the dust?"
Thoughts:
What hope is there to live, if life consists of going to darkness. “Once you die that's it, you simply are no more” I've heard this from more than one person in my life and I think to myself - “Really? Life on earth is basically meaningless then. Live, die, that's it, hope you enjoyed the time you had while it lasted.” Don't you hope there is more to life after death?
Some would say - “where is hope in this corrupt world? I can't see it. I don't believe God exists because of the evil of this world.” It may be that if you base your belief on the corruption of this world, the suffering, the evil, the injustice, you are in a sense saying that corruption is your leader, your father, the one who guides your life, beliefs, thoughts, who controls your destiny, the core of who you are. This can seem to be a strong statement, but think about it. When you deny God or choose against Him because of the evil in the world around you, you are essentially selling your soul to evil. You may not live an evil life, in fact, you may be living a very generous life but you are denying the free gift God is giving you by choosing against Him. Reality is that good and evil exist, I would think that it would be hard for anyone to dispute or deny that fact. Corruption is evil? The opposite of evil is good? What is guiding your belief?
