Hebrews 12:1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Thoughts:
What entangles me? When I think of being entangled I think of being caught deep in a thick forest of vines or like an insect trapped in a web. Arms flailing frantically but unable to free yourself without the help from something else. What are some things that entangling me? The distractions of this world; money, comfort, possessions... If we can throw off the distractions of the world, ask God to free us from sin, untangle us from the web, we can run the race that’s marked out for us.
In myth Atalanta, the beautiful Atalanta could run faster than the fastest man. She set a competition for many suitors seeking the beauty of this women: she would marry the man who out-ran her, and those who failed would die.
Undeterred by the cruel fate that had befallen others and anxious to win the prize, Hippomenes, took up the challenge. She agreed. While they were running, Hippomenes threw glolden apples along the way, and Atalanta could not resist running to fetch them. Hippomenes passed the finish line.
What is your golden apple that's preventing you to run the race marked out for you?
