Waiting to be on the Waitlist

Yes, we're waiting to be on the waitlist. Our dossier has been received, our paperwork looks great, the only thing holding us back from getting those special numbers are the home study review. We have reviewed it, OK'd it, signed the cover copy, and it's now been inĀ our adoption agencies hands for a week. Any day now they should have completed reviewing it, will offer revisions back to our home study agency, then they will notarize it and send it back. Once the notarized originals are received by AGCI - we will get our numbers. In the last week I've seen one family get #19 for siblings, and another get #20 for siblings. So - - - I'm guessing we're going to be in the 20's for our siblings.

For those who aren't familiar with this # thing, some agencies and some countries do it differently. Our agency and Ethiopia allow for us to be on a waitlist where you can see the numbers move - and slowly see yourself move up the list. We have some friends in Denver that are adopting from Rwanda through a different agency, and there process is much different. Rwanda urrently has all of their paperwork and has since October. Once they review your paperwork (which hasn't been done yet), they will receive some sort of 'favorable' letter saying they can adopt through Rwanda, then they have 1 to 2 months to wait for a referral - with basic information - picture & age, if they 'accept', then they get the medical records and any history, have that reviewed, 'accept' again, and then work on court dates and travel time. I'm amazed at how different it is for each agency and country.

My hope is that we have our 'numbers' before Jay comes back from his trip to Ethiopia on the 25th.

Hoping you're on the list sooooon! I think it would be next Friday at the latest. I know they normally review dossiers then and if everything's okay, then they should call you Friday afternoon/evening and give you your number! Yay! And remember with the numbers too... There are some people on all 3 lists that will wind up getting a referral of just one baby (like us - we're on the boy and the siblings, but our siblings criteria is for twins, which is unlikely, so we'll probably wind up with a referral of a boy). That means that when those families get their referral of their one child, they drop off the siblings list... All this to say, hopefully you'll move up the list faster than you think! What are your age parameters for siblings???

Oh - I hadn't really thought of that. That's right! Our parameters are birth-12 months (so twins). We've really had a heart to adopt siblings for over 5 years now - so at least at this point, we're willing to wait a while. What are your age parameters? And remind me - what is the name of your blog site?

we just got our favorable determination letter today and it says we're approved for one child, so i think we'll be taking our names of the siblings list which means you'll be one number closer than you would have been!!! yay! we were pretty much planning on just one boy for starters anyway :-) we're also 0-12 months... our blog is http://aheritagefromthelord.blogspot.com

oops. i just "registered" for your site over on the right side of your page... i thought maybe i needed to do that so you could view my info, but maybe i didn't need to! so just ignore that! sorry!

So why did they select you for one child instead of two? Does that happen often?

Hope you have a great trip!

How exciting for you! We were the #19 for siblings that got put on the list last week. It is such a good feeling to be done with that phase and then you can settle in for the wait. We are going to wait for siblings as well, but our age parameters are 0-4, so we have no idea what to expect. So happy for you!!
Kimberly  - Congrats   |2010-02-18 14:06:32
That's so nice to have all of that paperwork done. Enjoy this 'restful' time.

We just found out that our home study agency did not send in our criminal checks from each state we've lived in. They have had the paperwork for 4 months and now this will delay us getting on the waitlist. What a bum - and yet, I continue to try to remind myself that it is in God's timing, not ours.

So happy for you too! Congrats!

Very excited for you. Now the wait :)

We are just beginning our adoption journey.

Congrats - from what country are you adopting and what are you age/gender parameters?

I had always heard that the paperwork would be so challenging - but really, I did not think it was so bad at all. Be encouraged.

We are going to sign with AGCI in April... infant boy ethiopia program. We are open to siblings also. I love the heart of AGCI- I feel very comfortable with them.

Right now we are collecting the initial fees/homestudy fee. Trusting God to provide!

Praying for your wait!
